10 Tips for Motivating Yourself to Clean and Do House Chores

Nobody likes doing house chores, but unfortunately, they need to be done. If you’re having trouble getting motivated to clean your house, don’t worry – you’re not alone. In this blog post, we will share 10 tips for motivating yourself to do housework. By following these tips, you’ll be able to get your cleaning done in no time.

So, without further ado, here are our tips for motivating yourself to clean:

1) Start with a list

Make a list of everything that needs to be done right away. This will help you stay organized and focused on what needs to be accomplished.

Starting with a list also allows you to feel a sense of accomplishment as you check items off. Seeing your progress will motivate you to keep going until everything is done.

If making a list seems daunting, start small. Break your cleaning down into manageable tasks that can be completed in an hour or less.

2) Create a schedule

Create a weekly schedule for yourself and try to stick to it as much as possible. This will help you establish a regular cleaning schedule and make the process less daunting. Depending on your lifestyle, your cleaning schedule will vary. For example, a working mom’s cleaning schedule will differ from a stay-at-home mom’s.

For me, I prefer to set tasks for certain days of the week. Weekends are for laundry, Tuesdays I clean the bathrooms, Wednesdays I vacuum and mop the floors…etc. You can create a schedule that works best for you and your family.

3) Set a timer

Set a timer for yourself and see how much you can get done in that amount of time. You may be surprised at how much you can accomplish in a short period of time when you’re focused and motivated.

Timers can motivate you to work faster and harder because you’re racing against the clock. But be sure to give yourself enough time to complete the task at hand. If you’re constantly rushing, you’ll only end up feeling overwhelmed and stressed.

When my home office is cluttered, I set a timer for 15 minutes and see how much I can declutter in that time. It’s amazing how quickly the space can be transformed when you’re focused and working against the clock.

4) Listen to music

Put on some upbeat music to get yourself in the mood to clean. Music can be a great motivator, so find something that makes you want to move and get cleaning. I really love my Sony headphones, because they have great sound quality and they’re super comfortable to wear during chores.

If you have young kids, put on a dance party playlist and get them involved in the cleaning process. Not only will it be more fun for everyone, but it’ll get the job done quicker.

5) Set realistic goals

Don’t try to do too much at once. Set realistic goals for yourself and break them down into manageable tasks. This will help you avoid feeling overwhelmed and discouraged.

For example, if your goal is to declutter your entire house, start with one room at a time. Or, if you want to deep clean your kitchen, start with the stovetop and work your way around the room. By taking small steps, you’ll be more likely to stick with it and see results.

6) Take before and after pictures

Before you start cleaning, take a picture of the area you’re going to be working on. Once you’ve finished cleaning, take another picture to see the transformation. This will help you appreciate your hard work and feel proud of your accomplishment.

7) Take breaks

If you feel like you’re getting overwhelmed, take a break. It’s important to stay motivated, so don’t push yourself too hard. Take a few minutes to yourself and then get back to it.

If you need a longer break, consider taking a day off from cleaning. This will help you recharge and come back feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the task at hand.

8) Reward yourself

After completing a task, reward yourself with something you enjoy. This could be anything from taking a break to watching your favorite TV show or reading a book.

Or, if you’re trying to save money, give yourself an inexpensive treat like buying yourself a new plant for your home or going for a walk in the park.

9) Find a cleaning buddy

If you have a friend or family member who is also trying to get motivated to clean, team up and help each other out. This could be anything from taking turns cleaning each other’s homes to working together to declutter your living space.

Not only will you be able to motivate each other, but you’ll also be able to share helpful tips and tricks.

Plus, it’s always more fun to clean with someone else. Just make sure you’re both on the same page in terms of your cleaning goals.

10) Follow cleaning influencers on TikTok and Instagram

If you’re looking for some extra motivation, follow cleaning influencers on TikTok and Instagram. There are some really great accounts out there that share helpful tips and tricks.

Plus, it’s always motivating to see other people’s before and after pictures. It’ll give you a sense of what’s possible and help you stay focused on your own cleaning goals.

Some of my favorite accounts are @cleanwithnessa and @home.orga.

I hope these tips help you get motivated to clean your house. Just remember to take it one step at a time and don’t try to do too much at once. With a little bit of effort, you’ll have your home sparkling clean in no time. You can do it!
